I cannot say I was an out-and-out David Lynch fanboy. But his movies and images lived rent-free in my head--whether I wanted them to or not--And that makes him a helluva writer/director to me. I remember stumbling upon Eraserhead as a kid, and I was disturbed yet fascinated. His work was as close to dreams teetering on nightmares as anyone's.
